Spiffies: For Baby's Teeth

I have fillings.  Lots of them.  It's something I'm not proud of and is a result of bad habits as a kid.  With that being said, I'm trying my damnedest to get my kids to take better care of their choppers than I did.  So far, so good.

Never a bother with Spiffies!
Those little baby teeth need to be taken care of.  Tooth decay is a bad thing.  Did you know that 40% of kids in the U.S.A. have cavities by age 6?  Ugh.  Not a very good idea of mine to clean a binky with my own mouth and then plop it back in kid's mouth.  (Shock horror, can you believe I would do such a thing?)  What a great way for me to pass on bacteria to my poor little babies.  Whoopsie.

Juice didn't happen to Emily until she was four years old.  Ya, kid #1, I was super mom.  Juice happened to Aidan at about age 3.  And then there's kid 3, who I recently found sucking on a sibling's empty in the living room just the other day.  Awesome.  You know he'll be sucking 'em down at about 2, because super mom is nowhere to be found.

Ok, ok, let 's get back to taking care of the little people's teeth.  Owen loves brushing and can hardly pass by the bathroom without calling out, "brush teeth."  (Whose kid is he anyway?)  But now he has a new word in his vocabulary and it's "Spiffies." Bedtime now usually ends with a request for "Moah Thpiffies!"

Spiffies!
Spiffies are tooth and gum cleaning wipes for babies who are 2 months of age and older.  They smell delicious (grape and apple), but must taste delicious too, because Owen can't get enough.  If you're a mom who focuses on natural products for your kids, you'll love these things.  The magic natural ingredient is xlyitol, which comes from birch trees and can be found in many fruits and vegetables. It's FDA approved, fluoride free,  SLS free and gluten free.  The harmful cavity bacteria, which feeds on sugars in the mouth, can't use xylitol as a food source ~ xylitol may even cause the harmful bacteria to leave the mouth altogther if used regularly!  WOW!  Sign me up, right?

How would you like a chance to win some Spiffies to try out for yourself?  Your kid is going to LOVE them!  Get going on good oral hygiene and have it be stress-free with these nifty little flavorful wipes!  Here's what to do:
  • Leave a comment below (Mandatory for entry)
Please leave an additional comment for each of these extra entries you complete:
Good luck!  Contest is open to U.S. residents only and contest period ends on April 11th, 2012 at 8pm EST.  Winner will be chosen by random.org and will have 48 hours to claim prize before a new winner is chosen.

Stroller Goodness: Giveaway!

I'm feeling generous.  It's probably because I've been hanging out with a number of cute babies with my bloggy friends.  I got cuddles with 5 week old Tessa, from Don't Mind the Mess, this past weekend.  Man, is she a sweet one.  Tessa's mom says #4 is headed my way.  She says she can "see it in my eyes," whatever that means.  Tessa's pretty damn cute, but I'm pissed that no one took our picture together.

And then there were the Blissdom babies.  I make friends with babies and their mommies wherever I go.  I like to talk to people at Target about shampoo for goodness sake, can you imagine what I do when I see a newborn?  Yup, I ask a lot of questions, make faces and embarassing baby-talk noises.

And now, for the Blissdom babies...
Not sure of this one, but mom knew I was being intrusive during a photography session.  Isn't it nice?  I was  learning about aperture.
Callan and his beautiful baby-wearing Mommy from Stilettos and Diapers.  Yup, there's a baby sleeping in there during a Rascal Flatts concert!
Dylan from Love Live Grow
Let's get back to generous.  I'm giving away a super soft Special Collection Bugaboo Paul Frank stroller blanket and Hold On Handles for strollers!  We all know fleece blankets keep kids warm, but this one is especially cute.  The Bizzy Bugs (ladybug single handle set) teach kids to stay within arms reach when walking alongside mom or dad.  It's an adorable little handle keeping everyone under control while walking around town or at the mall.  It snaps easily onto most strollers.

Here's how to enter to win:
  • Leave a comment below
For extra entries, you can do the following!  Please leave one extra comment for each that you complete.
The Goods
Sound good?  Sure it does. Good luck.  Contest period ends on April 12th, 2012 at 8pm.  One winner will have 48 hours to claim prize before a new winner is selected.  Continental U.S. entries only please.  Good luck!

Whilst I was away at a blogging conference all day yesterday (yes, again!) in Cambridge, my darling husband and six-year-old daughter managed to clean and vacuum and scrub and polish my Chevy Traverse.  OH MY GOD.
Ready for me
Spotless
Will the kids ever be allowed in again?

Oh, and I made so many new friends over at Blog Better Boston yesterday.  Much fun was had.  I made friends with the drink ticket girl, Katy Rose.  She was a love, passing out extra tickets to the old fogie blogger lush crowd in the back.  She even takes amazing bloggy notes.  See what I learned?  I love new friends.

Now, go make your husband clean out your car!  Oh, I can't wait to drive it!

ABCmouse.com Giveaway: Educational Fun for Little Ones

Congratulations Ani Wilson in TX!  You are the lucky winner!
We recently got our hands on a free subscription to ABCmouse.com, the online early learning academy.  I  am always scouring the web for great sites to compliment all the learning going on at home and school and this site is amazing.  They've recently added science and social studies activities to the learning path, which is wonderful because often times these important subjects are left out.

Emily, who is in kindergarten really loves how the site is full of games and fun which allow her to rack up tickets to virtually purchase things for her "room."  (It is very similar to the way WebKinz is set up.)  You can have your child travel on the Step-by-Step Learning Path or you can create your own custom lessons for your children.  The site is perfect for my Aidan, who is 3.5, because it's a great tool for reinforcing his letter-sound correspondence, number sense, and even art and music!  Aidan is learning on the site, while Emily is having fun racking up tickets to fill up her "room."

Abcmouse.com is definitely worth checking out if you are a homeschooling mom or a mom who is looking for the perfect site to reinforce important skills necessary for success in kindergarten.  What's better than learning that seems like fun and games?  We love the printables too!  Don't forget to check ABCmouse out on facebook

How would you like your own subscription to ABCmouse.com?  One lucky reader is going to get the chance to check it out for themselves!  Here's what you have to do:
  • Leave a comment below telling me who's the lucky little person in your life who would like to learn on ABCmouse.com
For extra entries you can do the following:  (leave an extra comment below for each that you complete)
  • Follow Stowed Stuff on facebook
  • Follow me on twitter
  • Subscribe to my blog
  • Share this giveaway on your facebook wall
  • Tweet about this giveaway on twitter (once daily if you wish!)

anewjewel on Etsy: Giveaway!

Congratulations to Lisa Deck, winner of the Valentine's Day Giveaway!

I must admit, I'm not the crafty type.  However, it doesn't mean I don't love to cruise Etsy now and again to admire all the beautiful hand-made items by so many amazingly talented shop owners.

Meet my wonderfully talented colleague, Aly, who is the owner of the new Etsy shop, anewjewel.  Aly is a vibrant and dynamite kindergarten teacher.  I even have the pleasure of working in her classroom everyday with her adorable little six-year-olds.  We teachers have a lot of tricks up our sleeves, but making jewelry?  I guess that's what happens when you're the daughter of an art teacher.  Anyway, let's get down to business.

She crafts these gorgeous everyday pieces by hand and they are simple and elegant.  I love her style.  She's even offering her customers 15% off at checkout for Valentine's Day!  So please have a look-see and check out what she's got.  They make GREAT gifts!  She's got bracelets, earrings, necklaces and more.  She can even craft you a custom piece, especially designed for you.

One of my favorites from anewjewel
Large Infinity Turquoise Gold Necklace
Ok, are you ready?  Aly has so graciously offered up an amazing opportunity for the readers of Stowed Stuff.  One lucky winner is going to get to choose a piece of choice from anewjewel (according to availability.)  So get over there, start browsing and pick your favorite.  You'll have to leave a comment below telling me which piece makes your heart go pitter-patter for Valentine's Day.

  • Like anewjewel on Facebook and leave a comment for Aly on her wall.

SleepBuddy: Giveaway!

"I got a present!"
So, we went through a couple of weeks of hell after Christmas trying to get Aidan to stay in his bed all night.  I stuck to my guns.  Chris and I followed through with our plan to keep dragging him back to his own bed without speaking to him (except for an "I love you.  Goodnight.")  It's been going pretty well, however we have a small 25 watt light next to his bed that he still likes to have on at night sometimes.

But not anymore.  A few days ago, Aidan received a lovely little present from MomSelect.  He was so excited to open it and see what it was.  So was Mommy!  We got a SleepBuddy!  I absolutely love how it was gift wrapped and made Aidan feel really special.

SleepBuddy features a soft blue light that can sits on Aidan's dresser.  We no longer need any other light on in the room at bedtime.  HALLELUJAH!   The light is set to stay on while Aidan is sleeping (for naps and bedtime!)  We have set the light to go off at 7:30am, which means it is OK for him to get up!  And it's working.  Over the weekend he told me, "I swept weawy good wast night because I weawy weawy wike my SweepBuddy."  Too cute.

SleepBuddy comes with a cute children's book that explains how it all works, reinforcing healthy sleep habits.  It even includes a rewards chart with stickers to track your child's progress and a parent's guide to help you reach sleep success.  Emily loves encouraging her little brother and helping him with his stickers each morning.  It's totally great.

SleepBuddy is great for any child between the ages of 1 1/2 - 6 years old.  It's perfect for kids who are:

  • Soon to be transitioning from crib to bed
  • In the process of transitioning to a bed
  • Sleeping in a bed, but not staying through the night
Gift wrapped SleepBuddy

I know how important it is to get your beauty rest and teach healthy sleep habits to your kids.  One lucky reader is going to win their very own Sleep Buddy, the complete system for naps and nighttime.  If you're struggling with sleep, along with your little one, this may very well be the answer to your prayers.

Contest is open to U.S. residents and contest period ends on February 5th, at 8pm EST.  In order to enter, please leave a comment below telling me a little bit about the sleep culprit in your house.  (Mandatory)

For extra entries:  (please leave one extra comment below for each that you complete)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you to MomSelect and SleepBuddy for realizing I needed one of these bad boys.  Love it.  All opinions are my own.

Happy Family Baby Food: Giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed.  Congratulations to Diane T. & Heidi M.

When Owen was eating baby food, we discovered Happy Family Brands at Target and I'm not sure who loved this baby food more, Owen or Mom and Dad.  Owen devoured the yummy organic pouches without a hitch every time. We loved that they mixed the veggies with the fruit in the same pouch.  And we also loved the variety of flavors that Happy Tots offered.  Before we discovered this convenient way of dispensing baby food, we were opening two jars and mixing fruit with veggies so that they'd go down easier.  Thanks for making our lives easier Happy Family.  The best way for my kid to get the green stuff, was in a Happy Tot pouch of green bean, pear and pea. YUM!

The convenience factor is huge.  If you're a busy family on the go like us, you just pop some of these delicious pouches in the diaper bag with your Boon, and your set to go!  Just squeeze the pouch into the Boon Squirt when it's time to eat!  No mess!  No mixing!  And you know you're giving your baby nothing but the best!

Big kids love this stuff too.  Happy Morning is an organic super breakfast that all kids will enjoy.  Just tear, squeeze and go!  No soy, no wheat and gluten free too!  They are a super yummy snack on a hot summer day if you decide to chill a pouch!  Delish!   I'm really excited to get my hands on HAPPYBITES, their line of healthy frozen kids meals for toddlers and bigger kids that are high in protein and fiber.

Owen and Aidan fight over the Organic Puffs, Happy Melts and Happy Munchies - no joke!  How else am I going to get my kids eating broccoli and kale?  It's the healthiest snack in the house!

Here are some other great facts about Happy Family:
  • Organic goodness
  • Green packaging
  • Available at Target
  • Lower sodium
  • Crazy antioxidants
  • BPA free
  • Contain Supergrain Salba
  • Dr. Sears recommended
  • Did I mention convenient?

Read and Romp Boston: Giveaway!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, November is Family Literacy Month in Massachusetts.  Have you ever heard of Reach Out and Read? They are a nonprofit organization that helps to promote early literacy in coordination with pediatricians all over the U.S.  By offering developmentally appropriate books to young children during a well visit, this organization is helping millions of young children in the fight against illiteracy.  Did you know that 88% of first graders who are below grade level in reading will continue to read below grade level in fourth grade?  (Juel, 1988)  This is a frightening statistic.  Please keep reading to your children.

Reach Out and Read has put together a fabulous literacy event, which is being held in Boston next Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 10:30 - 2:00 at the Seaport Hotel.  It's called the Read and Romp and all proceeds go directly to Reach Out and Read.  The Read and Romp promises to be a fun-filled day for the entire family. Here's what you'll get when you purchase your tickets:

  • Meet Clifford the Big Red Dog
  • Get your passport stamped as you travel through storybook adventures with Curious George, Fancy Nancy, The Runaway Bunny and MORE!
  • 12 storybook stations with fun-filled activities
  • Gift bag that includes a book, toys and other goodies
  • Meet and Greet with some amazing authors, such as Peter Reynolds, the creator of Judy Moody!
  • A yummy Buffet lunch with entertainment from Stacey Peasley  (I love her!!)
  • Raffle and online auction with a chance to win some great prizes

Doesn't that sound like fun?  Tickets are $50/person (under 2 are admitted free) and all proceeds go to Reach out and Read.  I have some great news for the readers here at Stowed Stuff.  I'm giving away 4 tickets to this amazing event being held next Sunday!  Here's what you have to do for your chance to win:
  1. Leave a comment below telling me you or your child's favorite storybook.
  2. For an extra entry, leave a comment on Reach Out and Read's Facebook page telling them Annie sent you.
  3. For an extra entry, follow me on Twitter.
  4. For an extra entry, follow me with Google Friend Connect.
  5. For an extra entry, leave a comment on my Facebook wall.
Your family will have a blast at this event.  Entry period ends on Thursday, November 11th at 8pm.  Winner will be notified via email and will have 24 hours to respond.  Good luck!

Family Literacy Month: Giveaway!

Did you know that November is Family Literacy Month?

Do you read to your child every day?  We do.  Emily loves to read and Aidan is at the stage where he flips through books on his own and makes up the story to go along with the pictures...an excellent technique at the age of 3! It is so important to put books in their tiny hands and enjoy stories together.  I really feel that lots of exposure to books and stories will lead to a higher interest in reading as they enter school and hopefully, avid readers in the future.

Owen loves books too.  Especially our board books.  We have collected so many over the years, but my favorites are the ones that I received from my students at a shower thrown by the parents of the children of my third grade class when I was pregnant with Emily.  Each student wrote inside the cover of the books and we are still cherishing them six years later.  What a great idea, right?  I love reading the notes inside and it's a great idea for anyone throwing a baby shower for a new mom-to-be.  I still can't believe they did something that special for me.  (And the books were piled high in a beautiful moses basket...)

We all love Natasha's Wing's best selling series, "The Night Before..."  So in honor of Family Literacy Month and the upcoming holiday, I'm giving away an autographed copy of The Night Before Thanksgiving to one lucky reader!  This is a really cute book to get your kids excited about Thanksgiving and it would be great to use in any classroom!  Kids of all ages will enjoy hearing the rhyming verse and the family-filled fun!  I know all my teacher friends love all of Natasha Wing's books!  Her website is so cute and she even does Skype calls with classrooms who purchase her books!  Oh, how I wish we could get her to Foxboro!

Here's how to enter to win the autographed copy:
  1. Leave a comment below telling me one thing you're thankful for this year.
  2. For an extra entry, write on my Facebook wall telling me you entered this giveaway.
  3. For an extra entry, tweet this giveaway and leave a separate comment with your Twitter handle.
  4. For an extra entry, leave a separate comment for following Stowed Stuff using Google Friend Connect.
  5. For an extra entry, share this blog post on your own Facebook wall by using the widgets at the bottom of this post (Facebook Share button.)

Contest ends Nov. 10, 2011 at 8pm.  EST

My kids absolutely love playing on our phones while we wait for an appointment or during down time in the Traverse.  And as a reading teacher, you know I love any kind of online games or apps that will build upon our children's reading skills!  Bring it on!

Your kids will love playing with Twilight Sparkle: Teacher for a Day!  Kids aged 3-11 will be able to play and hear stories either at home or on the go on the iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch!  It was designed to engage children with interactive activities, video and an entertaining story.

Features include:
  • interactive storybook to read from to help develop reading, vocabulary and motor skills
  • brand new story with new characters
  • as the story progresses, children are rewarded with video clips, spot the difference activities, mazes and more!
  • randomization of activity content and level of difficulty
  • personalization with the ability to record voices in the storybook!

Would you like to win this app for your child?  And who knows, Ruckus Media and Hasbro might just throw in a few of their other best selling kid apps for you to try!  Here's what you have to do:
